It All Seems So Obvious

May 28, 2008

Rabbi Ben Zoma was asked:

“Who is wise?”

“He who always finds something to learn from others,” said the Rabbi.

“Who is strong?”

“The man who is capable of dominating himself,” responded the Rabbi.

“Who is wealthy?”

“He who knows the treasure he has: his days and hours of life, which can change everything which goes on around him.”

“Who deserves respect?”

“He who respects himself and his neighbor.”

“These things are all so obvious,” commented one of those present. The Rabbi concluded by saying:

“That is why they are so difficult to observe.”

How to Build Up Your Self-Confidence

May 21, 2008

Have you ever felt nervous when talking to a stranger or a crowd? I believe more or less you have! One of the main causes is lack of confidence. Yet, the real challenge is how to boost up your self-confidence under important circumstances like research paper presentation, thesis defense, job interview or business presentation. You may have prepared such items as smart suits, a brand-new belt, sufficient material, etc. Oops, you forget to prepare one critical thing that mainly contributes to your success: MINDSET.

How can a great-looking guy be well scored while his mental attitude doesn’t go along with his appearance? I meant you haven’t prepared to be self-confident enough to “please” your audience. The good news is that this attribute can be practiced and developed with these simple steps:

1 – Focus on what you want.

This is what most of us neglect. While preparing for our turn, we spend time thinking of how negatively you will end up. Don’t care about how people would react. They will judge you by the way you express yourself and keep positive about who you are.

2 – Visualize yourself succeeding

After taking three deep breathes, picture yourself with positive results. Everybody congratulates you. You handle all the questions asked by your audience. Usually this visualization brings us smile, mostly triggering to our positive expectations.

3 – Use alert signs

Psychologists affirm that, like animals, human beings are conditioned with some behaviors. For example, whenever you take a dog a dish with food, your pet will look at the dish with saliva. Do it again without food, the dog will keep mouthwatering at your dish! Why not do this with yourself? Try to use any sign meaning your self-confidence, like holding your hand tight or crossing your fingers.

4 – Repeat positive auto-suggestions

This technique is the easiest. Still, like other techniques, it needs exercising. Now try to say all these sentences and feel how they power you up:

- I am confident.

- I can do it.

- I am a successful student/candidate/employee/businessman.

- I’m enjoying brilliant results…

Don’t just say or do it once; repeat it until you feel energy coming from inside you. Your own mind can be prepared like other items and even developed to its fullest by exercises or trainings.

How to Distress Your Life

May 18, 2008

Embrace things in your life that drive you to achieve, and start letting go of those things that do not. It is difficult to distinguish the category in which any of your activities belong, but paying attention to your choices and their consequences will sponsor the awareness you’ll need to make better life choices in the future. Although things that bring us happiness outside of work can be our greatest inspiration for professional success, often they are so simple, we cast them aside as inconsequential. Do not do this. Remember the small things that make you happy, and use them to battle things that loom much larger and stress you out. Consider these suggestions:

  • Fill your mind with thoughts of peace, courage, hope, and health
  • Never try to get even with your enemies
  • Expect ingratitude
  • Count your blessings, not your troubles
  • Try not to imitate others
  • Create happiness for others

The Tiger and The Fox

May 9, 2008

A fox that lived in the deep forest of long ago had lost its front legs. No one knew how: perhaps escaping from a trap. A man, who lived on the edge of the forest, seeing the fox from time to time, wondered how in the world it managed to get its food. One day when the fox was not far from him he had to hide himself quickly because a tiger was approaching. The tiger had fresh game in its claws. Lying down on the ground, it ate its fill, leaving the rest for the fox.

Again the next day the great Provider of this world sent provisions to the fox by this same tiger. The man began to think: “If this fox is taken care of in this mysterious way, its food sent by some unseen Higher Power, why don’t I just rest in a corner and have my daily meal provided for me?”

Because he had a lot of faith, he let the days pass, waiting for food. Nothing happened. He just went on losing weight and strength until he was nearly a skeleton. Close to losing consciousness, he heard a Voice which said: “O you, who have mistaken the way, see now the Truth! You should have followed the example of that tiger instead of imitating the disabled fox.”

by Massud Farzan

The tiger represents go-givers and the fox, go-getters. In this world, go-givers always lead the crowd as they always look for ways to “serve” these latter better. Our training will cultivate this empathic trait inside you.

The Value of Self-Reflection

May 7, 2008

A Greek philosopher once said “An unexamined life is not worth living”.

Self reflection is the time we take out in our daily life to reflect on ourselves. We need to self reflect on our weaknesses, strengths, habits, our relationships and how we deal with other people in our lives.

Let’s look at some tools that can help us reflect on our knowledge and resources. Developing a habit of positive self reflection can improve your productivity and constructive actions.

It also improves your chances of being successful.

Transform Your Thinking
Your thinking can maximize your strengths and minimize your weaknesses. The art of self reflection is the innate ability to look inside your self and to act accordingly.

It is not self criticism.

It must be a positive activity bringing you closer to your true self and enhancing your natural characteristics. You can achieve any goal you set out to achieve if you reflect upon and rehearse it in your mind beforehand.

Positive reinforcement and visualization can aid your success.

Athletes use this technique where they visualize their chosen goal and reinforce this with disciplined training. Before you succeed in doing anything you should believe in it, to prepare for achieving it.

In our DMI training, Level1, this self-reflection technique is termed “Mind Mapping” which takes only 30 minutes per day. But by doing this everyday, you can control your next 23 hours and a half. Wanna experience this? Come and register in our upcoming training NOW.

The Thief

May 3, 2008

There was one great master, a Buddhist master, Nagarjuna. A thief came to him. The thief had fallen in love with the master because he had never seen such a beautiful person, such infinite grace. The thief asked Nagarjuna, “Is there some possibility of my growth also? But one thing I must make clear to you: I am a thief. And another thing: I cannot leave it, so please don’t make it a condition. I will do whatsoever you say, but I cannot stop being a thief. That I have tried many times–it never works, so I have left the whole sport. I have accepted my destiny, that I am going to be a thief and remain a thief, so don’t talk about it. From the very beginning let it be clear.”

Nagarjuna said, “Why are you afraid? Who is going to talk about your being a thief?”
The thief said, “But whenever I go to a monk, to a religious priest, or to a religious saint, they always say, ‘First stop stealing.’”

Nagarjuna laughed and said, “Then you must have gone to thieves; otherwise, why? Why should they be concerned? I am not concerned!”

The thief was very happy. He said, “Then it is okay. It seems that now I can become a disciple. You are the right master.”

Nagarjuna accepted him and said, “Now you can go and do whatsoever you like. Only one condition has to be followed: be aware! Go, break into houses, enter, take things, steal; do whatsoever you like, that is of no concern to me, I am not a thief–but do it with full awareness.”

The thief couldn’t understand that he was falling into the trap. He said, “Then everything is okay. I will try.” After three weeks he came back and said, “You are tricky–because if I become aware, I cannot steal. If I steal, awareness disappears. I am in a fix.”

Nagarjuna said, “No more talk about your being a thief and stealing. I am not concerned; I am not a thief. Now, you decide! If you want awareness, then you decide. If you don’t want it, then too you decide.”

The man said, “But now it is difficult. I have tasted it a little, and it is so beautiful–I will leave anything, whatsoever you say. Just the other night for the first time I was able to enter the palace of the king. I opened the treasure. I could have become the richest man in the world–but you were following me and I had to be aware. When I became aware, diamonds looked just like stones, ordinary stones. When I lost awareness, the treasure was there. And I waited and did this many times. I would become aware and I became like a buddha, and I could not even touch it because the whole thing looked foolish, stupid–just stones, what am I doing? Losing myself over stones? But then I would lose awareness; they would become again beautiful, the whole illusion. But finally I decided that they were not worth it.”
