Rev Up Revenue

April 23, 2009

How many ways do you currently make money? If you answered “One“, your odds for getting business from a prospect, given a Yes/No possibility, is only 50%. If you were to add just one more service or product, your favor will be 66.6%.

When you add services and products, be certain they complement what you already do and they are in your realm of expertise. Development takes time, so schedule a plan for time allotment, required funds and target date for completion.

Three easy ideas:

  1. eBook
  2. MP3s
  3. Collaborative workshops

FYI – if you were to add all three ideas to your services, you will increase odds in your favor to 80%!

Business Tune-Up

March 28, 2009

Unfortunately, many business people are suffering from not having enough clients or cash flowing in to remain in business, but sadly they have no idea of how to turn the situation around.

The news is filled with the words Stimulus Package, but generally speaking, the phrase applies to larger entities. How can you, the entrepreneur, stimulate your own personal economy?

We have all heard about car tune-ups and medical checkups – so I ask, what if you give yourself a business tune-up? What will that do for your personal cash-flow and economy?

Slow times are the best times to try new projects you have been putting off when you were too busy, and for getting the education you need to fast forward your business.

Wanna tune up or just start up your business in the current economy? Here’s the answer.

Five Rules for Business Start-Ups (Continued)

January 8, 2009

Look For Solutions
Find a problem and solve it. Find a problem that everybody’s got and see if you can’t come up with a solution for it. Find a way to supply a product or a service better, cheaper, faster or easier. Clemmons Wilson saw that there was a need for hotels that could accommodate families that were traveling, and he started Holiday Inns. And Holiday Inns has now become one of the most successful hotel chains in the world.

Focus On Your Customer
Here’s the key to success in business. Become obsessed with your customer. Fixated on your customer. Think of the customer. Think of what the customer wants, what the customer needs. What the customer will pay for, what the customer’s problems are. Thomas J. Watson, Senior, the founder of IBM, taught his people and built his company on this principle. See yourself as working for the customer. Once you’ve come up with a product or an idea, then start to invest your time, talent and energy instead of your money, to get started.

The Source of Most Great Fortunes
Remember this, most great fortunes in America were started with an idea and with personal efforts. Most great fortunes were started with the sale of personal services. This is called sweat equity. In other words, instead of cash equity, put in sweat equity. Put in the sweat of your brow to begin your business. You can learn valuable lessons operating on a small scale.

Five Rules for Business Start-Ups

January 6, 2009

Entrepreneurship is the art of finding profitable solutions to problems. Every successful entrepreneur, every successful businessperson has been a person who has been able to identify a problem and come up with a solution to it before somebody else did. Here are the five rules for entrepreneurship.

Find A Need And Fill It
First, find a need and fill it. Ross Perot, when he was working for IBM, saw that his customers who were buying IBM computers, needed help in processing their data. He went to IBM with this idea and they said they weren’t interested, so he started his own business. He eventually sold it out for $2.8 billion dollars. He found a need and he filled it.

Find A Problem And Solve It
The second rule is to find a problem and solve it. A secretary working for a small company began mixing flour with nail varnish in order to white out the mistakes she was making in her typing. Pretty soon, her friends in the same office asked if she could make some for them. So she began mixing it on her kitchen table. Then, people in other offices started asking for it, and she eventually quit her business and worked full time creating what is today called Liquid Paper. A few years ago, she sold her company to Gillette Corporation for 47 million dollars. (to be continued…)

The 3 Keys to Ultimate Business Success (Key3)

December 16, 2008

3. Profits

Most entrepreneurs and business owners’ attention is squarely focused on increasing sales when instead they should be focused on profits. This can be a fatal mistake, skewing your marketing efforts and distracting you from what you should be paying attention to.

In the past few years, Washington Mutual had amazing success increasing the sales of mortgages. And as you know now, they lost money on each of these and, ultimately, caused the bank to fold.

Whether you are testing a headline, an ad, a sales letter, a website, an upsell strategy, or a followup strategy, the question you should be focused on is, “What will help us maximize our profits?” Yes, you could send out ten thousand postcards and get a few more sales, but if your response is low, your marketing costs are going to decimate your profits.

The solution to making more is to continually test and improve everything you do to market your business, so that each month, you’re generating more leads, more sales and yes – more profits.

2. Relationships

Your biggest competitive advantage isn’t the quality of your products or services; it’s the number and strength of the relationships you have with prospects and clients. It’s the amount of confidence you command. So, where should your marketing be focused?

Focus 80-90% of your marketing efforts on relationship-building activities.

Typically, most marketing is aimed at getting the sale, not at building relationships or confidence. Big mistake! People need to first know you and trust you before they’ll buy from you. They need to be sure you’re the best company to buy from, and your product or service does what you say it does. Where confidence flows, money follows.

How do you gain someone’s confidence so he or she will buy from you? You help them get to know you through repeated contacts and demonstration of your expertise.

The 3 Keys to Ultimate Business Success (Key 1)

December 1, 2008

1. Needs

Whether you sell sunglasses, hearing aids, sports training, legal services, or financial advice, the place to focus is on your prospects’ needs. I know one entrepreneur who thought that the sunglasses parents were buying for their young children were a joke. So she came up with a line of quality unbreakable sunglasses for young kids, and her business is growing like wild.

Every product or service you create and market should be designed to meet an apparent or perceived need of your target market. No need, no sales. High perceived need, high sales.

The same is true of your marketing. It should be focused on your prospects’ needs. Focus your marketing on yourself, and you’ll struggle forever. Focus on what they want, and you’ll get their attention and their business. (To be continued…)

Keep Marketing You

October 31, 2008

Dear DMI Subscriber,

Please, every time you wish to read the full post, click the headline. It will lead you there! Enjoy:)

Rejection and job searching go hand in hand. As a writer, I can tell you something about disappointment. I had enough “reject” slips from New York publishers to start a bonfire. Then one day, an editor said, “Yes,” and my world was drastically transformed.

Ken Taylor began re-writing the Bible in a contemporary translation and had more than 60 rejections. He finally decided to self-publish “The Living Bible” and it became one of the greatest best-sellers in publishing history.

If you’re qualified for a particular job, never stop interviewing — even if you return to the same companies five or six times. Meanwhile, you need to accept an interim position to keep yourself gainfully employed. When you add lack of funds to job rejection, it’s a double-whammy. Never overlook working for a “temporary” employment agency. It gives you a chance to demonstrate your skills to a number of companies and can open some exciting doors. As a last resort, start free-lancing your skills. Who knows? You may wind up with your own business and be your own boss!

by Neil Eskelin

Most people will take “rejections” too seriously. They never think it’s just part of the learning process. From rejections, you learn at least one most important emotional skill: persistence. Surely, it takes persistence to succeed in any goal you set forth. How much are you ready for rejections or, in Khmer expressions, “thick-faced”?!
